Merapi Volcano Info

Tens house around flood plain in Yogyakarta was attacked by flood water of Kali Code (Kali Boyong) on 29 November 2010, 16.00 WIB (GMT +7). Kali Code is a river which it’s headwater is in Merapi Volcano. Hard rain in Merapi area is the cause of the flood.
Rain season from November until February will be second hazard of Merapi eruption. There are many river which it’s headwater is in Merapi Volcano, such Kali Code (Boyong), Kali Kuning, Kali Opak (Gendol), Kali Blongkeng, Kali Senowo, Kali Krasak, & Kali Woro.
BPPTK (Balai Penyuluhan dan Pengembangan Teknologi Kegunungapian / Center of Information and Volcano Technology Development) said if there are 150.000.000 metres cubic material as Merapi eruption since 26 October 2010. Most of the material is in Kali Gendol. Regarding to this situation, BNPB (Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Bencana / National Disaster Management Agency) warn the people who live along flood plain to be care.

The situation going better, refugee which their home outside danger zone has go back to their home. They clean their home & village from dust, sand, & carcass with helped by volunteer & army.
The status still in “Red Alert (Level 4)”, until 12.00 WIB (GMT +7) there are 8 times volcanic earthquake, revolving tremor earthquake, 10 times avalanche.

Although still in “Red Allert Status”, 2 weeks after biggest eruption of Merapi Volcano on November 5th 2010,  BVMBG as the authority body finally decrease the danger zone of Merapi Volcano. The danger area are differ for each regency. Danger zone for Boyolali Regency is 5 kilometres from the peak, Magelang Regency & Klaten Regency is 10 kilometres from the peak, Sleman Regency in west of Boyong river is 10 kilometres from the peak, while Sleman Regency in east of Boyong river is 15 kilometres from the peak.
Many people in emergency shelter that live in outside danger zone say their happiness if they can go back to their home, because they feel bore live in emergency shelter.
To prepare the village, some villagers & volunteer cleaning the road from stumbling trees & burn livestock carcass.

The authority body also hooking up some banner that warn the distance from the peak.
